Liverpool might not be going after Real Madrid target Florian Wirtz

As reported by The Echo (h/t Liverpool.com), Liverpool are not going to be pursuing a deal for Real Madrid transfer target, Florian Wirtz. The 21-year-old has been on the list of many top-flight clubs thanks to his performance with Bayer Leverkusen this season.

Wirtz was perhaps the best player on Xabi Alonso’s Bundesliga side that was one win away from an invincible treble. He was always a threat in the final third of the pitch and spent most of his time playing as an attacking midfielder.

Wirtz made 49 appearances recording a staggering total of 18 goals and 20 assists for the Bundesliga side. A world-class showing by the 21-year-old gives people faith in his ability to take on the next challenge in his young career.

However, he will have to take that step somewhere other than Anfield now. It was previously reported by Marca that Real Madrid had agreed to personal terms on a deal for Florian Wirtz. If these reports are to be believed he was anyway heading to Spain.

However, if not then he had an option to come to the Premier League. Now Wirtz can choose any of the two La Liga giants, Real Madrid or FC Barcelona who talk suggests are also interested in the player. Regardless of who he chooses Wirtz will most likely be spending next season at Leverkusen.

The 21-year-old has come to life under the leadership of Xabi Alonso, it wouldn’t make sense for him to leave a team that almost won an invincible treble. Staying with the Bundesliga side would be in the German’s best interests for now.

Wirtz is no longer on the Reds' radar.
