Mohamed Salah faces the challenge of being the main man in the Liverpool attack under new manager Arne Slot
Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has stated he feels unconvinced whether star forward Mohamed Salah can continue being the talisman in the first team next season, as quoted from an exclusive interview with Prime Casino.
Mohamed Salah, 31, is facing the most important summer of his career amid exit links from Anfield. The Liverpool superstar is about to enter the final year of his contract and speculation is linking him with a move to the cash-rich Saudi Pro League.
In a summer of change at Anfield, with Dutch tactician Arne Slot replacing Kop hero Jurgen Klopp, the Egypt international has a huge decision to make. Salah has reiterated his intentions to stay at the club by claiming in May that “he would fight like hell” to win trophies under Arne Slot next season.
Yet, Didi Hamann remains unsure whether the 31-year-old could keep going at the same pace and be the difference-maker in the final third of the pitch for his former team. However, Hamann is also of the view that the Reds may find to difficult to find a like-for-like replacement for the Egyptian forward.
“Salah has been wonderful for Liverpool, but he’s getting older now. Can he be that player who makes the difference next season? I’m not sure if he can. If Salah moves on, I’m worried that there isn’t a player in the squad that is ready to take on the responsibility of being the main man,” Hamann told Prime Casino in an exclusive interview ahead of Euro 2024.
“I don’t see anyone there that can fill his shoes. Liverpool have a lot of supporting acts, but they’re not ready to become the leading man. That is key for me. Who can come into the team and do what Salah has done for the last seven years? It’s a big challenge to try and find a replacement for him.”
Liverpool rejected an eye-watering £150 million offer from Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad for Mohamed Salah on last summer’s transfer deadline day, but a renewed bid from the Middle East to recruit the forward is anticipated when the transfer window reopens later this week.

Salah turns 32 later this month and, as he heads into the final year of his contract at Anfield, Liverpool could be tempted to cash him in this summer. The club won’t want to lose a player of the Egyptian’s quality, experience and winning mentality on a free transfer, but there is also the risk of allowing our most prized asset to leave, just weeks after the appointment of new manager Arne Slot.
After Al Ittihad’s £150 million bid was rejected last year, a similar lucrative offer this summer could prove to be too good to refuse, both for Liverpool and Salah.
