Barcelona could move for Liverpool star Luis Diaz this summer
As the summer transfer window has entered its final weeks, Liverpool supporters would hope the club at least manages to bring in a couple of new players and back new gaffer Arne Slot. Regardless of a solid pre-season under Arne Slot, with the fans witnessing some beautiful football, there is no doubt that the Reds need reinforcements in different areas of the pitch.
There are also a few players whose futures have been uncertain at Liverpool for weeks and months. One of those is Luis Diaz, who has been on the radar of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain all summer.
The Colombia international has been a key player for Liverpool since he arrived from FC Porto in January 2022. He made 56 appearances across all competitions this past season, contributing 13 goals and five assists in the process. The 27-year-old became a mainstay in attack under former boss Jurgen Klopp, but with Arne Slot taking over the managerial reins, his status at the club doesn’t look secure.
Liverpool are open to selling Luis Diaz before the transfer window slams shut if their £50 million asking price is met. This has been followed by Barcelona seemingly reigniting their interest in the flashy winger from Barrancas.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have identified Luis Diaz as one of the alternative targets to Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams after the Euro 2024 winner proudly signed the No.10 jersey and wore it—which was previously donned by club legend Iker Munian.
Following Williams’ latest actions, Barcelona are not ready to sit back and wait for the Atletico Bilbao star’s response to their interest. The Catalan giants have already prepared a list of several potential alternatives to bolster the left flank if the Athletic Bilbao winger does not join.
Diaz is in good nick after leading Colombia to the Copa America final. He also scored twice in the pre-season win against Sevilla and appears to be a good fit for Anre Slot’s system.
Diaz has been linked with Barcelona in the past, but nothing substantial materialized from those rumours. However, with a move for Williams in jeopardy, links between Diaz to Barcelona are heating up once again. This development follows the Reds’ readiness to part ways with the Colombian ace provided the £50 million valuation is satisfied.

Despite not having made a single signing so far this transfer window, the club have been working hard behind the scenes to bolster Arne Slot’s squad. If Barcelona make a move for Diaz, the 27-year-old’s potential sale could play a significant role in helping our club push for Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon.
