Michael Owen on renewals of the Liverpool Stars
Michael Owen, the former Liverpool striker who has 297 appearances for the Reds rose to the top in the late 1990s, becoming one of the club’s most prolific goal scorers.
He won the Ballon d’Or in 2001 and played a crucial role in Liverpool’s success during that period, including their famous treble-winning season, although his future move to Manchester United caused controversy among some Liverpool supporters. Some even referred to the Englishman as a Traitor.
“I think Liverpool will have a gauge on where things are going at the moment. If any of them had said categorically ‘I’m not signing a contract, I want out’ then you might have seen something different in the summer. You might have seen one of them moving on, or you might still see something in the winter transfer window.”
“I’m sure they’ve got it under control. There might be an announcement in the next month, let’s say, that one of them has signed a new four-year deal and everybody will be thinking ‘why were we all worried?’.”
