If we judge from the past two seasons, Liverpool weren’t considered title contenders. Well, at least they weren’t in the second halves of them. Just when many were thinking they could be losing their tides, the arrival of a new head coach has taken them by surprise. While every pundit is praising what we’re calling the “Slot ball”, the man who has dominated the league for the past half a decade has also acknowledged them now.
Pep Guardiola is watching Liverpool over his shoulder
Liverpool have sent a message they mean business in the first three match days. With accurate passing and subtle movements, there’s a new feel about Merseyside.
Pep Guardiola is the latest man to acknowledge this change. He has expressed how he has got a lot to look over since the arrival of Arne Slot. While speaking to Sky Sports, the Spaniard said:
“When I play a new club in the Champions League that I don’t know, I see much more than playing against Arsenal, for example. Of course, I want to watch Arsenal a lot, but Mikel has been there for four or five years.”
“And before with Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool. Now I have to watch more Liverpool because of Arne: I don’t know exactly what they do. But with Jurgen, we knew each other better.”
“Liverpool came along and – like I just told you about the rivalry between City and Liverpool and the many games we as football fans saw – it wasn’t a difficult choice to make.”
This sends out a clear message that the Manchester City manager is studying Liverpool again. While he may not have to over the past few seasons, the arrival of Slot has certainly put a chip on his shoulder. Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola have been fighting on thin lines over the past two seasons. But by the looks of it, there might be a new sheriff in town. And the crown looks for the taking more than it has been in the past half a decade.
This is also another episode of Arne Slot earning the English league’s respect. While a few have hinted at indifferences in the camp, many players have also come forward applauding the system. Like the defence getting rock solid again and the wingers being able to make the most out of opportunities. It’s all in the coming as Slot also described his squad has just the kind of players to play the kind of football he likes.

Liverpool with their bright season start should be focused more than ever. While it is important to keep up the tide, pundits will agree having the proper mindset will be important. The Reds are the team with the most shots (37), highest expected goals (5.3) and lowest expected goals (1.0) going into the fourth weekend of the premier league. This sends out a clear message on dominance up till now.
Merseyside will host Nottingham Forest on Sunday. While there could be a few players who could miss out, some players are in top form coming from the international break. Goals would be expected in abundance as they look to pick up where they left off a few weeks ago.
