Liverpool who were in a festive atmosphere during the first weeks might’ve just hit a setback. While they recover from their 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, there’s plenty on the backstage that hasn’t been yet addressed. With a tense situation among the management and their season players’ future, the questions keep arising. A former Liverpool player has taken the time to address the contract situation.

John Barnes believes Liverpool might have a plan amidst fast expiring contracts

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van-Dijk and Mohammed Salah have all their futures up in smoke at Liverpool currently. With the trio being in the final year of their contracts, there has been little talk about their extension. While it is just a matter of time before we could see some clarity on the topic, former Liverpool player John Barnes has expressed his views on how the trio will be approached. Speaking to Liverpool’s betting partner Ladbrokes, the former English international said:

“It’d be virtually unthinkable for there have been no conversations between club and players. I just cannot see it. So they’ll have a handle on it. They’re not stupid.

“I’m sure they’ve got it under control. There might be an announcement in the next month, let’s say, that one of them has signed a new four-year deal and everybody was thinking, why were we all worried?

One among the Trio could bid farewell to Anfield

Liverpool might have to let go of one of their greats. Trent Alexander-Arnold who is currently on a £180,000 per week contract is having his indifferences at the club. Moreover, Salah whose agent shut down all rumour talks recently remains keen to stay at Merseyside. Speaking on how things could take turns, Barnes also added:

“There might be one of them being lined up to be sold on or to go out as free, but whatever it is, they will have their plans in place. This has not just crept up on them in the last week at Liverpool.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is easily the one player amongst the three who should be retained at all costs.

It is obvious maths, renewing three such contracts is very less likely for a club like Liverpool. While they are seeking winger replacements already, the scouting team has been rumoured to be highly active. However, there is no solid information on what the new head coach Arne Slot might be cooking.

The trio which consists of Skipper’s seem to get to the point they never saw coming. While Salah was not shy to express his thoughts after the Old Trafford win, Van Dijk also expressed that no talks have been held recently. While considering the age and same terms demanded could be a reason for the Reds’ management’s silence, they would be in for some tough decisions in the coming time.
