Liverpool are trying to board wagon to the recent trend of signing highly regarded players in their budding years and developing them into their potential over the years as they grow into the culture at the club. The Premier League heavyweights have been linked with a move for multiple starlets viz., Serbian prodigy Andrija Maksimovic and Brazilian gem Vitor Reis.
And to increase the list of potential arrivals at Anfield Stadium, the Merseyside Reds are looking to snap Josh Acheampong’s services from Chelsea in the upcoming winter transfer window. Acheampong can become not only a short-term fix for the right-back role but also could potentially grow to replace Trent Alexander Arnold in the long term, per The Independent.
Can Liverpool beat the competition to Sign Acheampong?
However, signing the teenager wouldn’t be an easy task, with Spanish giants Real Madrid also looking to sign the player alongside Premier League heavyweights Newcastle United. The La Liga side holds a long-term interest in the 18-year-old; however, they are looking to take action on their interest in the January window owing to Dani Carvajal’s injury.
While Chelsea are adamant about keeping hold of Josh Acheampong, Madrid are looking to test their resolve in the winter.
Real are also targeting a move for Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander Arnold, whose contract situation at Anfield Stadium aids a possible move to Santiago Bernabéu. And if Madrid does move for the England international, it can set off a transfer domino that could lead Liverpool to sign Acheampong.
Alongside the aforementioned clubs, PSG, Borussia Dortmund, and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in landing the Cobham talent.
