Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher wants to right the wrongs of last season against Arsenal in the Premier League title-impacting clash. The Reds face the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium for the first time since losing 3-1 in February of 2024.
Liverpool made several mistakes in the second half that cost them the game which shifted their title chances last season. The Reds suffered a late dip in the collective form of the whole team to lose the Premier League eventually.
However, Arsenal are facing a different Liverpool this time under the new head coach Arne Slot and with better momentum. Liverpool have not reached anywhere near their best but managed to secure victories, showcasing their winning mentality and vast improvement.
The Reds have won 11 out of their 12 games in all competitions so far this season, conceding five goals. The drastic defensive improvement has allowed them to maintain the winning run even in games where they struggled for control.
Slot emphasizes the importance of maintaining control and changing the gears in attack according to the phases of the game. Liverpool used to play with a more attacking mindset under legendary manager Jurgen Klopp that demanded players of different profiles.
Speaking to the media (via Express), Kelleher outlined the desire of Liverpool to right last season’s wrong against Arsenal. He said:
“It’s early days in the title race but it’s still a massive game. We did not get the best result there last season and we will be looking to do better this time. It will be really tough and we need to be prepared. I will always back the team as I know the quality we have. It’s going to be a tough game, obviously, it’s never easy at the Emirates but we will do our best to be as well prepared as we can and we will give it a good go.”
Liverpool lost their number one goalkeeper Alisson Becker to a hamstring injury during the crucial congested fixture period right now. The Brazilian is estimated to miss the games until the end of the November international break, leaving Kelleher in charge.
