Liverpool want Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton to bolster their midfield under Arne Slot during the next summer transfer window. Despite missing most of the season due to a groin injury which required surgery, Wharton has played a pivotal role.
The Eagles are currently 12th in the Premier League table and have successfully reached the FA Cup final this season. Wharton made an immediate return to the starting lineup after returning from his long-term injury, highlighting his importance for Palace.
The 21-year-old midfielder’s technical ability and maturity beyond his age play a key role as he dictates the buildup play. Wharton’s ability in possession is restricted by the overall style of play at Palace and the quality of his teammates.
Compared to other Premier League clubs, Palace lack the collective team quality to dominate possession for most of the game. Nevertheless, Wharton remains one of the key influential young midfielders operating in the Premier League and gaining an immense reputation.

The young English midfielder has made 25 appearances in all competitions for Palace, contributing two assists so far this season. According to Football Insider, Liverpool wants Wharton from Palace to bolster their midfield under Slot during the summer transfer window.
Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown elaborated on Liverpool’s interest in Wharton, as he ticks many boxes. He said:
“Adam Wharton is a very, very talented player. He’s an excellent passer of the ball, he keeps it moving and plays a big role in the middle. Plus, he’s only young and he’s already an England international, so that ticks a lot of boxes. At Liverpool, he wouldn’t be required to sit as deep or break up play as much as he is at Palace.”
Despite securing the Premier League title in Slot’s debut season at the club, Liverpool needs to sort out their weaknesses. The Reds endured elimination from the cup competitions due to fatigue and inconsistent performances during the season’s latter stages.
The same problem occurred last season under the legendary manager Jurgen Klopp when many players dropped their form collectively. Liverpool will use the summer transfer window to strengthen themselves, and the midfield remains a key area.

The Reds have overplayed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, with Curtis Jones challenging the trio. Jones has also received criticism for his inconsistencies and problems with dwelling too much in possession.
Wharton remains one of the prime candidates to bolster the midfield, and his age, nationality and the Premier League experience are a bonus. The 21-year-old has a lot of potential and an innate quality in possession that suits the profile that Slot desires.
