Liverpool were made to work hard in their 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. The Reds entered the game following back-to-back wins in the Premier League and a Mohamed Salah goal in the 23rd minute was enough to separate the sides.
The Reds had a number of chances to extend their lead but Matt Ryan produced a few quality saves to keep the score at 1-0.
Alisson had to be on guard to ensure a third straight clean sheet as Liverpool became the first team in this season’s Premier League to win their opening three games.
The Reds topped the table after the matches on Saturday and here are the player ratings from Anfield.
Liverpool Player Ratings
Alisson – 7/10
The Brazilian made one quality save to deny Pascal Gross in the dying minutes and worked hard to keep a clean sheet.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10
Trent struck the post with a great free-kick in the first-half and his passes were a joy to behold. The youngster also picked up a booking in the second-half.
Joe Gomez – 7.5/10
The Englishman did well against Glenn Murray and won most of his duels with the Brighton forward.
Virgil van Dijk – 7.5/10
A leader at the back, Van Dijk didn’t have to do a lot of quality defending but he kept things calm and was always communicating with the rest of the defence.
Andy Robertson – 7/10
The Scot was his usual energetic self as he bombarded the Brighton defence with crosses and even set up a few chances for Liverpool’s forwards.
Georginio Wijnaldum – 8/10
Wijnaldum was probably the best player on the pitch for the Reds and continued his impressive start to the season.
James Milner – 7.5/10
Milner produced a brilliant display once again, excelling in the midfield.
Naby Keita – 6.5/10
Keita wasn’t as dynamic as in the first two games but he did a decent job in the middle of the park.
Sadio Mane – 5.5/10
The Senegal international was completely off his game with misplaced passes and poor decisions. Liverpool were lucky not to get punished for their poor finishing and Mane should have been taken off earlier.
Mohamed Salah – 7/10
Salah got the only goal of the game with a brilliant first-time finish but the Egyptian squandered a number of chances to extend the lead. He was another player off his game but did enough to win us the three points.
Roberto Firmino – 6.5/10
Firmino’s final touch and pass were missing in the game. The Brazilian hasn’t looked sharp this season but he did have a header saved by Ryan in the first-half.
Substitutes
Jordan Henderson – 7/10
The captain was a second-half substitute and he did a pretty good job of passing the ball around and shielding the defence.
Daniel Sturridge – N/A
The striker came on in the final few minutes but didn’t have a lot of time to showcase his ability.
