Jurgen Klopp has made his intentions very clear since his arrival at Anfield. He wants to build a young fearless force that can challenge title contention from the next season. The German knows that a lot of changes in personnel need to be done over the course of the summer transfer window. On his arrival, he was handed over a side struggling with form and injuries. Although he did manage to bring a lot of energy and produced some good results, a champions league spot looks a far-fetched dream this season. A lot of restructuring is needed in the side and here are the three most important positions that need an upgrade.
Left Back
This position has always been a problem since the time John Arne Riise left. Liverpool have always been on the lookout of a quality left back but their expectations have not been met. Alberto Moreno shows some promise but is not the finished product. He manages to make those runs but when it comes to defending and marking, the weakness is clearly visible. Joe Gomes suffered from a prolonged injury for the majority part of the season due to which his impact is not yet observed. Liverpool need a quality left back who can give depth in terms of defense and also deliver those killer crosses in the six-yard area.
Goalkeeper
Simon Mignolet always has mixed opinions from the experts and the critics. His performances have not been consistent and occasionally he is seen to make howlers behind the goal. Although he is a good shot-stopper, his decisiveness and command is always under question. Liverpool need a keeper with much more authority and confidence. Jurgen Klopp certainly should consider scouting for this position.
Striker
To win games you need to score goals and for that, you need a quality striker. There is a clear dip in the goals tally since the departure of Luis Suarez. Sturridge was expected to fill that gap but he is struggling with injuries for the better part of the season. Christian Benteke was bought from Villa but he has failed to impress the Kop faithful. He might just turn out to be the next Andy Caroll. Liverpool need quality up-front if they are looking for title contention and someone like Lewandowski can certainly fix this problem. With Lallana, Coutinho and Firmino showing a lot of promise, all that Liverpool needs is a brilliant striker to give the end product.
