Liverpool have played some amazing football in their last few games and in the big Merseyside Derby they thrashed Everton with a score-line of 4-0. The fans and players are still hopeful of a dramatic end to this season with the Europa league and the 4th spot to aim for. Liverpool legend Ian Rush praised his team’s recent display under Klopp and is confident that they will do much better in the next season.
This is what he had to say, “I think he has done very well so far. But I think next season is when we will really start to see his work when he has had a full pre-season with the players and another transfer window.”
There are some certain areas that need to be addressed if Klopp’s men want to stand a chance for glory in the next season.
Set piece defending
Liverpool have gone to concede a lot of goals through set-pieces this season and it has cost them a lot of points. Lovren has shown tremendous improvement under Klopp and his partnership with Sakho at the back is getting strong. But, Liverpool will need to ensure that they defend set-plays better and try not to concede goals through them.
Fitness and squad rotation
This season has been a disaster in terms of the injuries and Liverpool have missed their key players on a number of occasions. The Reds need depth in their line-up with players who can easily be rotated so as to avoid the fatigue as well as to give a new dimension to the line-up. The current squad is showing promise but Jurgen Klopp will certainly strengthen his squad with new additions in the summer transfer window and will try to answer this concern for the next season.
Strong Midfield
Liverpool have had struggles with finding the right combination for their midfield. Towards the end of the season, Can and Henderson started to understand and comprehend each other’s game. Can is showing a lot of promise in the defensive midfield position. But now injuries have ruled them out and Liverpool are lacking with players who can fit in perfectly with the roles in the center of the park. Klopp will surely try and bring a world class midfielder who can be a dominating figure and can dictate the game. Liverpool will have to improve in this aspect and try to establish a stronger midfield for the next season.
