Liverpool FC transfer news: Liverpool agree £72million deal with Lille over Pepe
L’Equipe (h/t Metro) reports that Liverpool are one of four clubs to have agreed on a deal for Nicolas Pepe.
The Ivorian was excellent for Lille last season and bagged 22 goals in Ligue 1. The winger also managed 11 assists as Les Dogues finished second in the league.
The report claims that all deals agreed for Pepe’s transfer are around the £72million mark, with Arsenal, Inter Milan and Napoli the other teams in the race for his signature.
Lille president Gerard Lopez confirmed Napoli had bid £72million but added that the Pepe will decide where he plays next (h/t Metro):
“For Pepe, we have received four acceptable offers from four big clubs. Napoli have made a bid for Pepe which satisfies our €80m (£72m) demand.
“Up to the player now to decide where to go, with the contract offers made by the four clubs.
“Pepe will come back from holiday on Monday and I think he’ll decide in the middle of the week.”
Liverpool not making big transfers so far
The Ivorian would be an excellent signing for the Reds, and it is to be seen if Liverpool make a big move in the transfer window.
The 24-year-old is a quality attacker and would add competition for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane too.
The Reds don’t have quality cover for the pair and Pepe would fit into the scheme of things at Anfield.
This has been an extremely quiet summer for the Reds, with only Sepp van den Berg joining the side.
