Jurgen Klopp confirms Sadio Mane injury in win over Chelsea

Liverpool continued their fine form in the Premier League by notching up a sixth straight victory this season.

The Reds were in control for 70 minutes against Chelsea, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino giving us a 2-0 lead.

Chelsea had their chances but VAR kept them out from scoring. However, N’Golo Kante produced some magic in the second half to bring the Blues back into the game.

Liverpool looked tired during the final minutes of the game but held on for the win and kept their five-point lead over Manchester City.

There were other concerns for the Reds apart from the defence, with Sadio Mane coming off with a problem.

Jurgen Klopp spoke after the game and highlighted the issue with the Senegal star (h/t LiverpoolFC.com):

“It was a knock on the bone, around the knee, and a dead leg – that’s an awful combination.

“He tried everything but I think you saw, there was one counter situation when he really tried and I would say on a non-dead-leg day he will get that ball, but no chance and then we say ‘come on, now we have to do it’ and changed. That’s it.”

Liverpool should rest players in midweek

Hopefully, Mane’s injury isn’t serious and the forward comes back to action next weekend against Sheffield United.

The Reds face MK Dons in the Carabao Cup in midweek, and Klopp should rotate his side and rest some of the first-team stars.

Our attack and defence need a bit of a break after the Napoli excursion, and Sheffield won’t be an easy clash either.
