Liverpool to battle Tottenham for Memphis Depay signing
Liverpool and Tottenham are set to fight it out for Lyon star Memphis Depay, according to Calciomercato (h/t Express).
Depay has played for Manchester United in the past but struggled to make a mark at the club.
Manchester United sent Depay on loan to Lyon before the move was made permanent.
Depay has turned his career around at Lyon and is now a regular for the national team too.
The 25-year-old has scored 12 goals in all competitions for the French side and found the back of the net twice against Northern Ireland recently.
The report claims that Depay would only be seen as cover for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri are the options for the wide positions while Rhian Brewster can also play on either flank.
Depay would not be a cheap signing and is expected to cost around €50million (h/t Express).
United also in the race
Manchester United also have a buy-back clause in Depay’s contract and could rival the Reds and Tottenham for his signature.
Depay can play in several attacking positions and it will be interesting to see if we move for him.
The 25-year-could link up well with the rest of our attack and provide more options in the final third.
