Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain provides update on ankle injury with pictures on Instagram
Liverpool beat Flamengo in the final of the Club World Cup thanks to Roberto Firmino’s extra-time winner.
The Reds won their second trophy of the season and should have scored more goals after a bright start.
The referee had a poor game as he decided to overturn a last-minute decision as well. Sadio Mane was clipped by Rafinha in the final seconds of normal time and the official awarded a penalty.
However, after reviewing his decision thanks to VAR, the ref inexplicably overturned the call and gave a drop-ball to the Brazilians.
Nevertheless, Firmino provided a great ending to the competition but there was one major blot in the win.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain started the game and looked bright throughout the clash. However, the Englishman had to be replaced later after rolling his ankle.
As the midfielder screamed out in agony, there were some concerns he might have injured his knee again.
Fortunately, it was just his ankle and he hobbled off the pitch.
Ox provides update
Jurgen Klopp was concerned about the injury and claimed that further tests would confirm the extent of the damage (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“He feels okay, of course it’s far from being perfect, but we have to see if it’s a stretch ligament or partly ruptured or ruptured.
“It’s a big shadow on tonight.”
The Ox, however, did celebrate picking up the trophy and shared some pictures on Instagram.
It will be interesting to see for how long the Englishman could be out. The Reds have some concerns with their injury list piling up now.
