Liverpool have been handed a fitness boost with Joel Matip and Xherdan Shaqiri returning to training ahead of the trip to Tottenham. (h/t Evening Standard)
Matip had been out for close to three months after aggravating a knee injury in the Reds ‘ trip to Old Trafford in October.
Shaqiri who has been beset by injuries this season was ruled out after sustaining a minor muscle issue in the build-up to the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield in December.
The duo were photographed training alongside the first team on Tuesday as they near a comeback into competitive action.
It should come as welcome news to Jurgen Klopp, who has seen his squad stripped to it’s bare bones due to injuries to key players.
Matip and Shaqiri should give Klopp more options heading into the weekend’s game against Tottenham. With injuries to key personnel, Klopp was forced to field a reserve side in the FA Cup third round clash against Everton.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also returned as a substitute in the match against Everton to ease Klopp’s worries.
Fabinho, Dejan Lovren, Naby Keita and James Milner are still out injured for the Reds as they aim to win their first league title in 30 years.
