Jurgen Klopp provides injury update on Xherdan Shaqiri
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com prior to the West Ham clash, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri.
The 28-year-old has been beset by injuries this season and has made just 11 appearances for the Reds. His last appearance for the club came against Tottenham Hotspur when he came on as a late substitute.
Shaqiri is suffering from a persistent calf issue and there is no timeframe on his return yet.
Speaking on the player, Klopp revealed that the player is not close to training yet. The German went on to elaborate that the club will be patient and not put any pressure to rush the winger into action.
He chose to call it a ‘difficult’ injury rather than a ‘serious’ one. According to Klopp, the injury is big to keep him out for another two to three weeks.
“He is not close to team training.”
Shaqiri has been unable to build upon his first season at Anfield where he often impressed when given the chance. Six of his eleven appearances have come off the bench and he has scored just once.
