Liverpool could return for Ben White next summer

Liverpool’s lingering interest in Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White hasn’t come as too much of a surprise. Liverpool Echo are claiming that the Reds were keeping extensive tabs on the youngster’s development in the Championship all through last season, and that they will continue to do so in the upcoming campaign as well.

White spent last season on loan at Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United side, where he was undoubtedly among the most influential of presences. Not only was the defender solid at dealing with opposition attacks, but he also showed an excellent level of maturity and composure when in possession of the ball as well.

The Whites’ desire to sign the centre-half didn’t come as a surprise. They have been touted to have made at least three bids in an attempt to make his move permanent. But, their approaches were rejected by the Seagulls. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

The 22-year-old is now decidedly a Brighton player, having penned a new long-term contract earlier this week. And, the only remaining option for Liverpool is to watch White from the sidelines. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

Although this is the case, it doesn’t, by any stretch of the imagination, mean that our chase for the promising young defender is over. White was one of the main candidates that was considered as a potential replacement for Dejan Lovren, and with good reason. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

Brighton’s willingness to reject bids in the region of £30m would put even the biggest of clubs off, and that’s exactly what’s happened here. The Englishman though, is said to be on the perfect career path towards becoming one of the finest defenders in the Premier League. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

A full season in the Premier League will be the perfect way to understand whether the defender is actually cut out for this level of football. If everything goes to plan, White will develop into a top English defender by the end of the season, at which point Klopp will have the chance to sign him up.
