Jurgen Klopp urges Liverpool to show more intensity in possession ahead of huge Manchester City clash

According to the Liverpool Echo. Jurgen Klopp has revealed the key area in which his Liverpool side should improve ahead of their do or die clash against Manchester City.

The Reds have suffered back to back home defeats after a run of nearly four years without one. While injuries have decimated the Reds defence, it is in the attack that their much-vaunted stars have come up short.

Now confronted with a rampaging Manchester City side, the Reds have an opportunity to breathe life into a flagging title defence. A win will put Liverpool back in the mix, especially so given Manchester United’s poor run of late. A loss or draw will further cement Pep Guardiola’s position at the top.

While Liverpool had considerable possession against Brighton, they did precious little with the fall. Moreover, the tempo was laborious rather than intense. Klopp believes his players will have to work on it in the coming games.

“It’s not about, ‘Hold the foot like this’ and stuff like that, it’s about the tempo of the ball. How hard you pass, stuff like this.”

The German believes his players are better than what they showcased midweek. He has urged them to get through the difficult phase and get back to playing the way he knows they can.

“We have to get through this and we have to play better football anyway. Whatever happens around and whoever is out, we have to play the football we are able to play.”

Klopp is however willing to let bygones be bygones and focus on the task at hand. While Liverpool’s style may not have yielded results against Brighton, he is hopeful that it will do so in the coming games.

“Let’s go for the next one.”
