Mohamed Salah and three other Liverpool players in contract talks with the club
According to Paul Joyce of The Times (Subscription Required) [h/t Liverpool Echo], Liverpool are in talks with Mohamed Salah, Fabinho Tavares, Alisson Becker, and Virgil van Dijk over new contracts.
The Egyptian star is out of contract in two years’ time and has occasionally been ‘seen as flirting‘ with Real Madrid and Barcelona. He is, without a doubt, the club’s main man up front.
It is surprising if we look at just how many Reds players are out of contract in 2023. The list includes players such as Van Dijk, Salah, Fabinho, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Jordan Henderson. (h/t Mirror)
The players listed above arguably make up the spine of this Liverpool team. It is scary to imagine a situation where we get to the summer of 2022 and a number of these players are still on their current contract.
LFC need to renew several contracts
In order to avoid that, the club must undertake measures immediately and start tying up as many players as they can, especially the likes of Salah and van Dijk.
Otherwise, the club will risk a situation where we see a repeat of what happened with Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutchman saw his contract out at Anfield and joined PSG this summer.
Earlier this week, a report by The Athletic (Subscription Required) [as covered by TheKopTimes] already mentioned how the future of Jordan Henderson is a little unclear with regards to his contract negotiations.

Seeing our captain leave the club prematurely is an unthinkable situation. The Englishman has been the fulcrum of Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp and FSG must ensure Jurgen Klopp has the backing to keep his best players at the club for however long he wants.
