Transfer News: Liverpool ready to cash in on Naby Keita for the right offer
According to transfer news from ESPN (h/t Daily Star), Liverpool are ready to cash in on injury-prone midfielder Naby Keita for the right offer.
Keita arrived at Liverpool three years ago in a deal worth a massive £52m from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. While there have been glimpses of his ability, they have only been fleeting in nature as the Guinean has struggled for form and fitness for the majority of his stint at Anfield.
Indeed, Keita featured in just 16 matches across all competitions in the 2020/21 campaign, missing quite a few games due to injury and spending the rest on the bench. In his three years at the club, the 26-year-old has missed 54 games due to injuries. (h/t Transfermarkt)
And, it seems like Liverpool have ran out of patience with the Guinean international midfielder. While the Reds have already lost a central midfielder this summer in the form of Georginio Wijnaldum, they are now open to selling Keita as well, should the right offer arrive. (h/t Daily Star)
Considering that the finances have been hit by the pandemic and room needs to be made in the squad for new arrivals, it makes sense for Liverpool to take such a measure, especially factoring in how Keita hasn’t always delivered consistently even when fit and available.

Keita still has two years left on his £120,000-a-week, meaning unless Liverpool don’t extend his contract, they stand to lose him for a cut-price fee next year. It remains to be seen if the Reds go through with the axing of the 26-year-old this summer.
