Ben Davies set for Liverpool exit, loan move imminent
Journalist Lyall Thomas via Sky Sports has reported that Liverpool are set to let Ben Davies leave. However, contrary to earlier reports, the defender will leave on loan. Davies is set to join Sheffield United on a season-long loan deal.
According to the report, Sheffield United manager Slavisa Jokanovic sees Ben Davies as the first choice. The report adds that the Blades wanted the option to buy. However, it has been denied by Liverpool.
If the deal goes through, the Reds will receive an undisclosed fee. Jokanovic has been public about interest in the Englishman. Speaking to the media, he revealed that Davies is someone they need to sign.
“I can not add anything to Ben Davies, ”
“We are in a situation and it is not necessary (to say any more). I was really clear that we need more bodies, though. That is something we need to do.”
Does a loan deal benefit Liverpool?
Ben Davies joined Liverpool in 2021. The defender was signed in the winter window amidst the injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.
However, the 26-year-old still found it difficult to break into the first-team. Fabinho was slotted in as centre-back instead of him.
One would assume that it seems next to impossible that Davies would get much minutes this season. Van Dijk, Matip and Gomez have returned to full training. To add to that, the club has since signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.
