Liverpool cleared to play Fabinho and Alisson vs Leeds United
According to Daily Star, Liverpool has been cleared to play their Brazilian players along with some of the Premier League clubs. The Brazilian trio of Alisson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho were handed out a five-day ban by FIFA on the behest of Brazil FA that would have seen them miss the weekend’s fixture against Leeds United.
Liverpool and other Premier League clubs were handed a major boost for their weekend’s fixture after the dispute between the clubs and the South American football authorities reached an agreement. The five-day ban invoked by the Brazil FA has now been cleared, which will see Liverpool free to field Fabinho and Alisson in the team against Leeds.
Prior to this, Premier League clubs collectively decided not to allow their players to travel for international duty citing Covid-19 protocols, where the players would have to quarantine for 10 days before returning to the team. In response to this decision, the Brazilian FA, backed by FIFA, ask for the concerned players to be banned.
With the situation tense between the clubs and national federations, the Premier League clubs were in talks with the FA’s and the UK government to find a solution to this dispute. Lucky for the clubs in question, the Brazilian FA along with Chile, Paraguay and Mexico, backed down from their stance on not allowing the player to play for the next five days.
With this decision in place, Jurgen Klopp will be able to start Alisson in the goal and Fabinho in his midfield role. However, Roberto Firmino will not be able to feature in the Leeds game as he is unavailable due to injury issues. The Liverpool boss had his say on the dispute between the clubs and National FA’s, he said:
“It’s really tricky for all the clubs and players especially because we shouldn’t forget the players wanted to play those games and the clubs wanted to let the players go, but it was just not possible.
“I can understand why some people would say ‘I cannot travel, but they are allowed to travel’, but just let me describe again the life we live. We live in bubbles. It’s home, training ground, training ground, home.”
