Jack Dunn’s time at Morecambe has come to an end and the Liverpool striker will be returning to Merseyside as his loan deal did not work out all too well. The 22-year-old had joined the side in hopes of playing regular football but after making just seven League Two appearances for the side, his loan deal has been terminated.
Dunn moved from Liverpool, on another loan, to the side in January and it did start off well with the English forward starting the first nine games for the side. But the Englishman has only made a few substitute appearances since September and thus has come back to Merseyside.
Morecambe’s manager, Jim Bentley, did share his views on the return of Dunn, especially when he signed for the side just four months ago.
“Jack is a good lad and we have enjoyed having him here. For one reason or another it hasn’t worked out as we would have wanted in recent weeks so we feel at this stage it is best for all parties if Jack returns to Liverpool FC,” Bentley was quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
What next for young Jack?
Dunn has spent a lot of time on loan away from Liverpool. He has had stints at Cheltenham Town and Burton Albion, who both play in League Two. The English striker would be looking to impress Jürgen Klopp in training and hopefully, he can get into the EFL Cup side.
That is easier said than done at the moment. Liverpool do have a lot of players fighting for a starting place in the side and the EFL Cup could be the best chance for players such as Dunn or even highly rated star Ben Woodburn to represent the senior side.
The problem for Dunn is the competition ahead of him at the moment. Even if we are to forget about Woodburn or Ovie Ejaria and the likes, players such as Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi will be chomping at the bit to show the German manager what they can do.
Dunn did come through the Liverpool ranks and was even born in Merseyside but Klopp isn’t someone who gives away to emotion when it comes to selecting players. The Englishman has a lot of hard work to do if he is to break into this Liverpool side but there is always a chance of getting some game time under Klopp.
The German has repeatedly stated that he will give chances to youth players at the club and hopefully Dunn will have a few opportunities to impress the gaffer rather than be sold sooner rather than later.
