Some Liverpool fans react to Virgil van Dijk qualifying for his first major tournament
Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool has cemented his name in football history as one of the best defenders in the world currently. He was crucial for the Reds’ rise to the top once again under the reign of Jurgen Klopp.
The Netherlands needed a win to ensure a guaranteed qualification and with the help of the centre-back, they were able to get the three points. He also played a part in the last minute goal which sealed the win for his country.
The Dutch national team beat Norway on the night by a 2-0 scoreline due to a late rally that saw them score two goals in the final ten minutes. Having made the qualification for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Van Dijk would be playing in the first major international tournament of his career.
The 30-year-old had missed the Euro 2020 campaign due to a knee injury but will be in line to play for next year’s World Cup should injuries stay away. His national team were unable to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia but has put that away with their recent achievement.
The Reds ace will now travel to Anfield to get ready for their next game against Arsenal in the Premier League. He will look to use this boost to put behind their 3-2 defeat at the hands of West Ham United.
Here are some reactions from the Liverpool supporters who were overjoyed by Van Dijk’s qualification:
