Liverpool transfer target Antony makes some interesting comments with respect to his future
In conversation with Telegraaf (subscription required) [h/t Express], Ajax Amsterdam winger Antony opened up about his future amidst speculation. It is believed that Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are the Premier League clubs interested in his services at the moment.
The Brazilian professional footballer has been making quite the impression with his recent performances. The youngster has already scored 11 goals and provided nine assists in 26 matches across all competitions for the Dutch club this season.
The Reds have created a penchant to recruit young and nurture players to fit into the kind of system that they are trying to create at Anfield. This has worked well in the last few seasons with the likes of Harvey Elliot a top example of how this can be executed.
With that in mind, Anfield could be the perfect destination for Antony if he is to take the next big step in his career. The rising star had some interesting comments to make regarding his future as well as the lure of the Premier League.
Speaking to Telegraaf (h/t Express), the 21-year-old spoke about playing for Ajax. He also shed light on where he could be headed in the future but nothing concrete as of yet:
“Ajax is the place where I feel happy. But of course, I do think about a move in the future sometimes. Premier League and La Liga are the leagues I find beautiful. When the time is right, I hope to play there.”
Antony and how he could develop at Liverpool
The Brazilian youngster has been a stellar revelation and the Dutch club has a great history of producing some of the most talented players in footballing history. One of our very own superstars Luis Suarez also came to the limelight during his time at Ajax.
The Eredivisie club have managed to create an amazing system of developing young players and the likes of Donny van de Beek and Hakim Ziyech have already made their way to the Premier League after shining with de Godenzonen.
Whilst it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for van de Beek and Ziyech, the PL does offer a lot in terms of intensity and the opportunity to go up against some of the best in the footballing world.
Liverpool have a plethora of stars in their attacking roster such as Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino. It is highly unlikely that Antony would displace any of them from the onset and would have to wait for his chance.
With that in mind, Jurgen Klopp has given deserving youngsters their fair share of opportunities to prove themselves, especially in domestic competitions throughout the seasons. This gives youngsters some valuable first-team minutes as well as helps build their maturity and game sense.
