Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praises January signing Luis Diaz and his impact on the team
In conversation with Liverpoolfc.com, Jurgen Klopp highlighted the quality of new Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz. The German manager also shed light on the 25-year-old forward’s work ethic and how he has fit into the system at Anfield.
The Columbian professional footballer made the journey from Porto FC to the Merseyside club for an initial fee of £37m which could rise to £49m in potential add-ons. Having only made the move in the January window, it would be completely acceptable should he have taken some time to settle into the system.
While these are just early days, Diaz has already made a splash with his performances. He has been a livewire in a Reds jersey and also bagged his first goal for Liverpool against Norwich City in their latest Premier League match.
In conversation with the official Liverpool site, the 54-year-old manager had some kind words for his new recruit. He asserted that the 25-year-old attacker oozes talent and fits their counter-pressing system to a tee.
“He [Luis Diaz] is a really talented player with an incredible work-rate on top of that, so we didn’t speak a word to him about counter-press. I am pretty sure he knows it anyway, but you can see he is really in it, full throttle and when you watch our team in a good game a couple of times and you want to be part of it then that’s the obvious thing”
Luis Diaz and his instant impact at Liverpool
The Columbian forward scored 41 goals and provided 19 assists in 125 matches for the Dragoes before joining the Merseysiders on a permanent deal. The PL poses a different kind of challenge from the different leagues around the world in respect to the pace and physicality of the game.
This is especially true with Klopp demanding an intense style of play that can be a demanding feat for several players. Despite that Diaz has slotted in and had a great start to life at Anfield. His pressing and ability to cut across the lines have left quite a few people bemused and ecstatic at the same time.
The 25-year-old can not only help future-proof the attacking department at Liverpool but also be a serious contender for a starting position if he manages to keep up such performances. That is not a small feat considering the fact that we have some of the best forwards such as Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane in our lineup.
Not to forget that Diogo Jota has also created quite the impact ever since joining the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Columbian attacker already seems to be working wonders at Anfield and brings that extra bit of venom to the attacking department.
