Liverpool target Marco Asensio is expected to leave Real Madrid this summer
According to Marca (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool target Marco Asensio is looking for a move away from Real Madrid this transfer window.
The Reds have seemingly completed their incoming transfer business for this window, but the Anfield club could be willing to make a deal for the 26-year-old.
The Spaniard has a year left on his contract and the winger hasn’t been offered a new deal yet. With this development, talks of a possible move to Liverpool are going to intensify.
A squad player
If the claims of the Reds’ possible interest are true, Asensio would be a good addition to the squad. The Spanish winger has decent goal-scoring skills and could provide a threat from range thanks to the ability to score from distance in his locker.
In 235 appearances for Los Blancos, the 26-year-old has found the net 49 times. Although, this season, the forward has found himself on the periphery of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.
A cruciate ligament injury in 2019 kept him out for over eight months. Madrid fans had high hopes for Asensio, but his development has been derailed since then and he failed to reach the heights promised.
Keeping this in mind, signing the forward with expectations of him being able to have an instant impact at Anfield wouldn’t be wise.
Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez will possibly be ahead of Asensio in the pecking order if the Merseyside club does decide to sign him.
While Jurgen Klopp is a renowned man-manager and could bring the best out of the Spaniard if Liverpool does make a bid for the forward, it could prove to be a long shot.
