Bukayo Saka backed to flourish at Liverpool amidst expiring Arsenal contract
Liverpool has been dubbed ‘ideal’ for Bukayo Saka by former England international Glen Johnson in a recent interview with The Games Cabin as quoted by the Metro.
The 20-year-old’s future in north London has been questioned as a result of the ongoing contract crisis at the Emirates Stadium. He is yet to pen a fresh deal with Mikel Arteta’s side.
The Hale End graduate played 38 times in the Premier League for Mikel Arteta’s team last year, directly contributing to 18 goals. Even though rival Tottenham Hotspur beat Arsenal to Champions League qualification, Saka still earned admiration for his stellar performances.
And with his current deal with the club scheduled to expire in 2024, there is mounting pressure on the Gunners to incorporate a release clause in a new one.
In spite of his success in north London, former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has backed a plan that would see Saka sign a contract at Anfield.
“I’d like to see Bukayo Saka go to Liverpool. He’d suit Liverpool perfectly.”
However, even the retired English professional has stated that it would be pretty hard to lure away Saka from Arsenal as at this moment he is quite happy at Arsenal.
“But he’s playing well for Arsenal, and he clearly enjoys being there. He’s obviously a good lad, and you can see that from the way he interacts with other players. He’s still super young so maybe a few more years at Arsenal would work too.”
Even though Arsenal haven’t been able to bind Saka to a new contract, the Gunners’ technical director Edu has stated that the player is not for sale.
The acquisition of Luis Diaz by Liverpool during the winter transfer window was crucial to their pursuit of the quadruple. The Colombian thrived in his first season and already produced some memorable moments while wearing red.

On top of that, the Reds signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a significant amount in this summer window. Even though the Uruguayan hasn’t yet shown his effectiveness in a competitive game, there are a lot of suggestions that he could flourish under Klopp.
Any new player on this Liverpool team might not get a lot of game time with Diaz and Nunez filling in. Saka might value game time more than a better sporting project because he is young and just entering his prime.
