Manchester United fans threaten to walk out of Old Trafford against Liverpool

According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United fans are planning to stage a walkout in the club’s next home match against Liverpool at Old Trafford in lieu of the continued protests against the Glazers’ ownership.

The hashtag #EmptyOldTrafford has been gaining momentum amongst United fans on social media. This comes a year after the derby between Manchester United and Liverpool was postponed because home fans broke into the stadium carrying Anti-Glazers’ slogan.

Eventually, when the game took place, the home side were entertained to an embarrassing 4-2 score line. The Reds returned to the Theatre of Dreams the following season to thrash Man United 5-0.

Anti-Glazers’ protest is a clear demonstration from the fans that the club has suffered enough and they want the owners to step down from their position.

Former United captain Gary Neville has shown his support for the protests insisting that the club has become a ‘graveyard’ for players and is not seen as an attractive place for players anymore. Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville shared his opinion on the Glazers:

“The time has come for the Glazer family to sell the football club. It’s now.”

One of the major controversies surrounding the Glazer regime has been the structure of the ownership wherein there are dividends that are paid out to the family out of the revenue generated by the club.

There has been constant criticisms of it as it is resulting in the owners bleeding the club off its financial resources while gaining hefty profits in such a process.

Liverpool and United have been fierce rivals for over two decades but the current decline and the direction that United is going in is not an ideal position for any rivalry to flourish.

Thankfully we have better owners in FSG who have largely done well leading the club. Hopefully, Man United’s focus on the off-field events will distract them enough for us to hand them yet another thrashing.

Man United fans emptied Old Trafford in hordes last season as the Reds inflicted a 5-0 thrashing. We can certainly do our part for the protest by giving them a similar reason to get out.
