Jurgen Klopp provides injury update on Liverpool starlet Fabio Carvalho
Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp confirmed an injury to Fabio Carvalho in the match against Everton. The Reds drew the game goalless to their rivals in a game where there were multiple chances on both ends. (h/t The Mirror)
It was the first league start for the 18-year-old and it was clear that the occasion got on to him. He looked a bit nervy, obviously starting for the first time and that too a derby game. A heavy challenge from Amadou Onana saw him fall to the ground and was later subbed off. This latest injury adds Carvalho to the list of sidelined players including Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita.
The former Fulham boy was impressive in his first spell of games for the club. He was particularly tipped to start this game after scoring the late winner in the game against Newcastle United. Klopp summed up the youngster’s injury and said the following.
“I’m not 100% sure but I think it’s the muscle above the knee, a massive dead leg and very painful. One of the most painful things you can get – it should settle quickly but we will see.”
Club injury news
On a positive note, Klopp said that the injury should settle quickly, and the dead leg will be ‘back from the dead’ hopefully sooner than later. The Reds face Napoli in their first UEFA Champions League group stage game. Jurgen also added that the injury situation will be reviewed before the UCL game.
Carvalho was subbed off at halftime, and the gaffer switched him for Roberto Firmino. After he came on, there was a subtle formation change as Liverpool switched to 4-2-3-1 for a brief while. Bobby played the advanced playmaker role for those few minutes.
One positive thing is that Thiago is expected back from his injury layoff this week. And Klopp hopes that the Spaniard can train on Monday. Meanwhile, Carvalho’s partner in midfield, Harvey Elliott had a decent game, creating a few chances.
