Liverpool among clubs to hold talks with FC Barcelona wonder-kid Pablo Gavi

According to 90min (h/t The Express), Liverpool were among four Premier League teams alongside Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea to hold talks with FC Barcelona’s 18-year-old wonder-kid Pablo Gavi.

Gavi’s contract at the Camp Nou expires next summer, and talks of a new contract haven’t concreted yet. The 18-year-old is one of the most exciting players in the world over the last few years. Gavi has been tipped to have a world-class future.

Alongside Premier League clubs, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus also have had talks with Gavi and his representatives. Barca should look to give the youngster a new contract if they plan to as soon as possible, as there are plenty of suitors for the youngster.

Gavi’s Future at FCB

In 54 appearances for the Catalan giants, Gavi has accumulated two goals and six assists. A typical La Masia product, the youngster is slick on the ball and can find an opening in tough spaces.

Liverpool’s current midfield is ageing. By the end of the current season, James Milner and Jordan Henderson will be 37 and 33 years old respectively. Thiago Alcantara will also be 32, and the club will need to find replacements, and younger.

Gavi can fit the description perfectly. The Catalan club is said to be aware of Liverpool’s prolonged interest in one of their most talented youngsters. And to ward off the interests from England’s biggest clubs, Barca’s representatives are apparently planning a huge release clause.

Barcelona’s reluctance to give Gavi a new contract is understandable given their financial situation and the issues to register new players. Apparently, Barcelona wanted to present the youngster with a new contract on his 18th birthday, but the financial issues became a barrier.
