Fabio Aurelio on Liverpool title chances amid a slow start to the season

Speaking to Ladbrokes (h/t Liverpool Echo), former Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio still expects his old club to challenge for the title race amid a slow start to the campaign, with nine points out of the first six games and sitting at 7th.

Fabio Aurelio played for Liverpool from 2006 to 2012 and was quick to point out the competitiveness and level of teams in the Premier League and eventually the rivals would also drop points.

“Just as we’ve seen in the past few years, regardless of the start they’ve had, I expect Liverpool to be fighting all the way for the title

“Every game in the Premier League is tough, and we’re really seeing that this season.”

Fabio Aurelio believes Liverpool are still title contenders

Liverpool had a slow start to the season and have in all honesty looked way below the standards we have all witnessed in the previous seasons.

It is true that injuries are a major factor behind the slow start with key first-team players such as Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Diogo Jota having all been out of contention for the fixtures.

With as many as five key players returning to the fold, Jurgen Klopp would be looking to bury the previous results and concentrate on one game as it comes.

Jurgen Klopp would be happy with key players returning from injuries

The departure of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich has left a bigger hole in attack than suspected and that was pretty evident from our lacklustre performance in the Merseyside Derby.

Mohammad Salah’s role has differed due to the departure and he is playing more as a creator than a finisher. This is pretty evident from the positions he is occupying to create chances for his teammates.

The team’s output in front of the goal is reducing due to this and Klopp would have to find a quick solution to allow Salah the support from the other attackers to bring back his returns.

With our UEFA Champions League 2022/23 campaign kicking off against Napoli, it is crucial for us to prevent injuries and regain our form and kickstart our title charge with what lies a tough month of fixtures against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea.
