Arthur Melo recruits professional help to break into the Liverpool XI
The Times (Subscription Required) reports that Arthur Melo, who joined Liverpool on loan from Juventus on deadline day, has hired a physiotherapist, a fitness coach and a nutritionist to help him get back to optimal fitness levels. He aims to impress Jurgen Klopp and make a case for a successful time on Merseyside.
Without a proper pre-season behind him at Juventus, and also falling out of favour with manager Massimiliano Allegri, Arthur had to put in the extra yard to regain match fitness and play as many minutes as possible.
The Brazilian played for the U21 side not very long ago. The Liverpool staff are said to be happy with the 26-year-old’s development. Moreover, during his time at the club with the first team, he only managed to play 13 minutes against Napoli in the UEFA Champions League.
The former Juventus man has additionally not taken any days off his schedule to regain his match fitness. Melo could be a panic signing for the Reds following Jordan Henderson’s hamstring injury.
The fact that he is undergoing a rigorous training programme and hired professionals to help him sort his fitness out might be because he would want to prove himself at Liverpool following tough times in Turin owing to injury issues and inconsistent performances.
As well as having a lack of Premier League action during the international break due to the Queen’s death, Melo also had two weeks off due to the royal funeral. Hence, he stands well placed to concentrate on his fitness and make the case for himself to start for the senior team after the international break.
