Boost for Liverpool as Egypt will rest Mohamed Salah for Liberia friendly

Liverpool have been handed a huge boost as Egypt have decided to rest Reds superstar Mohamed Salah from their friendly against Liberia, according to a statement released by Egypt FA as quoted by Liverpool Echo.

This will come as a welcome relief to the Reds as Salah would be well-rested for a hectic October and this also prevents any chance of the 30-year-old getting injured whilst playing for the national team.

One of the biggest fears during any national break is the injury chaos that it could cause and when a player is rested from playing for his national team, the club team in most cases is likely to be relieved.

Salah took part in Egypt’s 3-0 win against Niger on Thursday, in a match that the Liverpool star man scored a brace. He along with the other goal scorer on the day, Mostafa Mohamed has been rested from the Liberia clash.

Salah, who recently penned a new long-term contract deal with Liverpool that will see him at Anfield until 2025 (transfermarkt), has had a rather mixed start to the current season by his own lofty standards.

After finishing last season as the joint top-scorer in the Premier League along with Tottenham star Son Heung-Min, Salah has started off this season rather slowly, much like his team Liverpool have.

In nine matches for the Reds across all competitions, the Egyptian superstar has scored four goals and provided three assists across all competitions. The 30-year-old is a much better player than these numbers suggest and he will want to show the same.

A crucial October awaits the Reds and it remains to be seen how Jurgen Klopp helps his side get through the situation. A fit and firing Salah will be a necessity for the Reds and this rest should do him the world of good.

Salah will anyway not go to the World Cup in Qatar and will be rested and fit for the second half of the season. Considering that, Egypt not qualifying for the World Cup could be a blessing in disguise for the Reds.
