Brighton star Enock Mwepu doubtful for Liverpool clash

Zambia doctor Ngongo has taken to social media as quoted by Liverpool Echo that Brighton midfielder and captain Enock Mwepu fell ill ahead of national duty and is a doubt for the clash against Liverpool this weekend.

A player who scored a goal for the Seagulls during their 2-2 draw against the Reds at Anfield last season, Mwepu will be a huge miss for Roberto de Zerbi’s side as they look to prepare for life after Graham Potter.

Predominantly a central midfielder who can also play in defensive midfield or even on the right of midfield, Mwepu has been pretty solid for Brighton and was an important player for Potter at least off the bench.

A player who came through the RB Salzburg, the Zambian midfield made a name for himself in Austria. He joined Brighton from the Red Bull club in 2021 and has since then gone on to adapt well to English football.

Mwepu has played six games for the Seagulls in the Premier League this season providing one assist during this time. However, only 33% of these games have come as a starter and it might not be a big miss for Zerbi that Mwepu is not available.

Speaking about his illness, Ngongo has said that the player fell ill as soon as he reported for national duty.

“Enoch got ill as soon as he got into the country. He was discharged from hospital [on Sunday] – however he needs further treatment and evaluation as quickly as possible so he’s been allowed to travel back to the United Kingdom.”

Zerbi’s side will be looking to make a good start to life when they take the Reds on this weekend but it will not be easy. Jurgen Klopp’s side will want to prove a point after a poor start to the season.

Liverpool have a lot of catching up work to do already in the Premier League and it is high time they step up and become the unstoppable force that we have seen them to be in the past seasons.

Enoch’s injury is not like to affect Liverpool’s plans much. We must be beating Brighton either wise and anything other than a win will be a disappointment this weekend.
