Transfer News: Liverpool are interested in Inter Milan star Marcelo Brozovic
As per Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Inter Milan’s 29-year-old midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. The Croatian is currently under contract at Inter Milan, set to expire only in 2026.
The midfielder is capable of playing multiple roles in the middle of the park. Ideally a defensive midfielder, he can play advanced roles as well. Liverpool’s interest in the player comes at a time when Inter are financially less than sound.
The Chinese owners of the Italian club reported a loss of €245.6m less than a year ago. Liverpool could do with the services of a player of Brozovic’s calibre, and Inter would benefit from the financial aspect of the deal.
Statistically speaking, he has been one of the best defensive midfielders in Serie A and the world in recent years. Brozovic has played 299 games for Inter so far and has scored 30 goals and made 37 assists across all competitions.
Could he be a good fit for the Reds?
Liverpool are looking to begin negotiations in their pursuit of the player with an initial two-year deal with the option of an additional year. Other teams in the fray include Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Merseysiders could benefit greatly in case they secure Brozovic’s signature. The desperate times at the club are crying out loud for a new midfielder and the Croatian international could provide a spark of fresh air. However, at 29, he is not much younger than most of Liverpool’s current midfielders and will not be a long-term solution to the club’s woes.
In terms of style of play, Brozovic is a player who can play a role similar to Fabinho in the Reds’ setup. His ability to win back the ball and recycle possession will help link the defence to the attack.
He can also wriggle out of tight spaces and find his teammates, which is an extremely important skill for a team that thrives off hitting their opponents on the counter.

It would be an extremely wise decision from the Reds in case they decide to go for Brozovic. This current campaign so far has probably made sure that the top brass at the club realise the need for a new midfielder, and quickly so because the current lot clearly have not pulled their weight.
