Liverpool’s recruitment department comes back with Scouting Report after a visit to Turkey in September
After making a visit to Turkey last month, Liverpool’s Scouting Department have returned to Merseyside with the names of a few players who they believe would suit the club. Having a quite modest but expensive transfer window in the summer last time around, Liverpool will this time be eager to add strength to their squad come January. (h/t The Mirror)
After having made three summer signings in Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay, and additionally one on loan in the form of Arthur Melo, the Reds would want to improve their squad and have a diverse environment at the club, hence the scouting in Turkey.
A number of Galatasary players have garnered attention from the management at the AXA Centre, including the likes of Sacha Boey, Victor Nelsson, Kerem Akturkoglu and Yunus Akgun. But as talented as these players are, the harsh truth of the matter is, Liverpool already possess enough players in the positions the quartet specialises in.
Are these players the correct fit for the club?
Boey and Nelsson play centre-back for Okan Buruk’s side. With Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip currently at the helm and with Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate alongside Nathaniel Phillips stepping up whenever the situation arises, Liverpool can do without the addition of another centre-back.
Moreover, Sepp van den Berg and Rhys Williams, who are currently out on loan, can also play vital roles in the future. The Turkish winger duo of Akturkoglu and Akgun will also now only be surplus to the players we have now. Yes, if any of them can play the left-winger role, it could possibly be a good addition, but otherwise, from an outside perspective, it does not make the most sense.
What Liverpool are in actual need of at the moment is a world-class midfielder. Without undermining the Turkish league, it is hard to imagine we can get a readymade starter from there – although Napoli signing Khvivha Kvaratskhelia from Dinamo Batumi shows that good scouting can be very, very rewarding.
It is a long season ahead and it will certainly be tough for Liverpool to compete for all four trophies given how injury prone the midfield has proven to be in the recent past. Notably, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who have not featured this season yet.

Strengthening in January could be a smart move but we need quality players, not stop-gap signings. Manchester City and Arsenal seem to be running away from us every gameweek and have to react.
