Transfer News: Real Madrid free up their non-EU capacity as they hope to land Jude Bellingham
In what will come as a major blow to Liverpool, Spanish giants Real Madrid have freed up their non-EU capacity as they plan to land Jude Bellingham next summer.
Both the clubs are interested in the Borussia Dortmund midfielder along with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United showing interest too.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side faced a huge obstacle to signing non-EU players. La Liga rules state that teams are only allowed to register five non-EU players, with only three being permitted in any matchday squad.
Their quotas were filled up by their South American contingent. However, according to AS (h/t Liverpool Echo), Rodrygo and Eder Militao received their Spanish passports last Friday. Vinicius Jr. also holds a Spanish passport, which has been renewed after a long and ardent process.
Such a conscious move to free up their non-EU spot would mean that the Los Blancos are eyeing non-EU signings in either January or next summer. Bellingham is a non-EU citizen as the UK is no longer part of the European Union but with Madrid now freeing up space in their squad for a non-EU player, it could be a severe blow to our chances of signing him.
He has been phenomenal so far this season. The 19-year-old England international has scored nine times in 19 appearances so far for his side in all competitions. The young midfielder is already one of the best in the world at such a young age.
Liverpool would know that it was never going to be easy to land such a wanted prospect. The fact that our rivals have started preparing to prise him away should come as a wake-up call to the Merseyside club.

It will be wise for the Reds to up their interest in the 19-year-old. Madrid already snatched a Red target this summer by signing Aurelien Tchouameni. Fans would not like to see another target go to Madrid next summer.
