Transfer News: Dietmar Hamann urges Liverpool to make a move for Joelinton

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has urged his former side to make a move for Newcastle United star Joelinton.

Jurgen Klopp’s side has been in disappointing form this season, with the midfield completely out of sorts. Players have either been out of form or injured and this has severely affected the season of the Merseyside club.

Hamann believes the solution to this crisis is Joelinton and while speaking to Boyle Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo), the former midfielder made his case.

“I would like Liverpool to sign someone a bit more adventurous, someone like Joelinton from Newcastle who has a physical presence, can get you a goal and he has the full package. A player like him would suit Liverpool down to the ground.”

The midfielder moved to Newcastle from German side TSG Hoffenheim in 2019. A striker originally, the 26-year-old transitioned into an attacking midfielder under Eddie Howe and has been phenomenal for his side since.

He has established himself as a regular for his side playing in 13 games so far this season in all competitions. The Brazilian has been a key figure for the Magpies in the midfield, who currently sit fourth on the table with 24 points, eight points more than the Reds at 9th.

Adding an experienced and versatile midfielder like the 26-year-old would make sense for Klopp. Joelinton can also play as a winger or centre-forward whenever required apart from pulling the strings in the midfield.

The midfielder sees his current contract expire in 2025 (transfermarkt). Given how important he has been for his side this season, it is very unlikely that the Magpies will allow him to leave for a rival club.

More Liverpool News:

It remains to be seen if Liverpool make any approach for the 26-year-old in January. Klopp would be wise to fix his midfield or the Reds could possibly finish out of the top four. To miss out on next season’s Champions League would be unthinkable.
