Liverpool winger Luis Diaz admits his childhood dream of playing in the Spanish League
Speaking to Columbian magazine SoHo (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool forward Luis Diaz admits that a move to Spain interests him in the future. By common sense, Barcelona and Real Madrid are the two names that would come to everyone’s mind when a top player confesses his aspirations of playing in that part of the world.
Mentioning how it has been his childhood dream to play in the Spanish league, Diaz while being ever grateful for the opportunity to play for Liverpool admits a challenge in Spain at a later stage of his career is something that could be considered.
“I would like to play for a Spanish club that has always attracted my family’s attention, but it is more of a childish dream.”
“Now I only think about lifting trophies and making history with Liverpool, which is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I am very grateful for the opportunity they have given me.”
Diaz moved from FC Porto to Liverpool in the last January transfer window and instantly made his presence felt with his wonderful performances. Everyone was aware of the qualities that the Colombian possessed but nobody expected him to perform in the manner that he did from the get-go.
In less than a year, he has established himself as a key member of the Liverpool team and we all were of the opinion that it is just the beginning of a glorious career for the player at Anfield.
Hence, it would come as a bit of a surprise to many supporters of the player’s career aspirations. However, a quick look back to history shows that while playing for Liverpool is a dream in itself for many players, the draw of Spanish clubs for South American players is a worry.
In the past, we have seen top players playing for Liverpool such as Luis Suarez, Xabi Alonso, Alvaro Arbeloa and Philippe Coutinho changing pastures to move to Spain.
Not just with players from our club, but in general there has always been a relationship between South American players with Spanish clubs and how many talented youngsters from the region are picked at an early age by top teams in Spain.
One can factor in that many of the legends of the game hailing from South America have gone on to make successful careers in Spain and as a point of significance for so many up-coming players, success for South Americans in Europe is associated majorly with the Spanish league.

With Diaz’s contract at Liverpool running until the summer of 2027 (Transfermarkt), we could sit back and not worry about the Columbian leaving Anfield anytime soon.
