Transfer News: Glen Johnson urges Liverpool to prioritise Jude Bellingham over Enzo Fernandez
Former Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson believes that the club should focus on signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham over SL Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The Reds have been linked with a move for both the youngsters, although Bellingham has been of interest for a long time now. Jurgen Klopp is keen to revamp his midfield and many names have been touted over time.
Johnson, while speaking to Midnite (h/t Express), believes that the Merseyside club should focus on getting the England international over the World Cup winner with Argentina.
“Fernandez would be a great signing but I’d rather have Bellingham at Liverpool. Fernandez looks a really good player and will be a really good signing for Liverpool. If the deal is already agreed then you know Liverpool have not signed him purely on his World Cup form.”
“I’d pick Bellingham over Fernandez. Bellingham had a brilliant few games at the World Cup and he’s still learning. He’s getting better every day and the sky is the limit. I like Fernandez but I would rather sign Bellingham.”
Both the midfielders will make fantastic additions to the squad. Bellingham enjoyed a very good World Cup with the Three Lions this year, helping them reach the quarter-finals. The 19-year-old has also been in terrific form for his club this season.
Such form has not gone unnoticed, with the former Birmingham City man currently being one of the most sought-after players on the continent. Fernandez meanwhile had a World CUp to remember and is on the rise as well.
The 21-year-old joined the Portuguese side in the summer and was enjoying a decent campaign with them so far. However, the midfielder caught everyone’s attention in Qatar as he featured in every game for his country and helped them lift the World Cup.
While both the midfielders are one of the best young players, Bellingham might have a slight advantage over Fernandez. Not only is he already familiar with the English game but has also built a rapport with the likes of Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

It remains to be seen if the Merseyside club makes any offer for either of them. Both are star players for their teams and will not come cheap, either in January or next summer.
