Liverpool discover Moises Caicedo price tag amid Chelsea interest
Chelsea are showing an active interest in signing Liverpool-linked Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo. The 21-year-old central midfielder finds himself on the radar of the Merseysiders and Chelsea as these clubs are in the same boat when it comes to their midfield situation.
The Reds are among the teams chasing the Brighton midfielder, who has been on the radar of Europe’s elite due to his impressive performances for both club and country and his goal in the World Cup is also doing the rounds of late.
Moreover, the Reds also discover the price they would need to pay in order to secure the Ecuadorian’s services from the Sussex-based outfit. The latest report by CBS [h/t Liverpool Echo] has suggested Chelsea are willing to pay in excess of £65million for Caicedo, with the Seagulls searching for £75m plus to consider a January sale which could reduce in the summer.
Our last game against the Seagulls would have been enough to show that we certainly need to reinforce our midfield. Caicedo’s performance against a struggling Liverpool midfield was just the icing on the cake. Moreover, former Red Adam Lallana was excellent in the game for Brighton against us, which shows how messed up the situation is at Merseyside when it comes to the middle of the park.
Caicedo to the Reds?
This Liverpool midfield has been struggling with inconsistent performances and an ageing squad, thus it’s crucial for the team to acquire new midfielders to overcome these issues and strengthen the team and doesn’t matter how repetitive it sounds, the issue is real and bothersome for the majority of Liverpool fans and for those who don’t see an issue, how?
At £75m or more, Caicedo could prove to be just that bit extra expensive compared to our other targets including the likes of Jude Bellingham, who could cost us not that much more than this but are much more proven on the highest level of club football.
Nevertheless, even if it is Caicedo or Bellingham, or even signing Jonjo Shelvey again from Newcastle, the need for a midfielder is absolutely immense and it could prove to be tough for the club to sustain in the long-term with the current set of players.
