Roberto Firmino leaning towards extending contract at Liverpool
According to popular journalist Florian Plettenberg (h/t Liverpool Echo), Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino is leaning towards extending his contract with Liverpool and wants to stay until 2025.
The club are also seemingly willing to extend his contract. Firmino has had a pretty good season this time around. He was crucial in the first half of this campaign but has been absent for quite some time now.
Firmino was having a difficult time at Liverpool for a couple of seasons before this. It looked like the Brazilian was past his best and did not have time left at the top. However, he has silenced all critics this campaign.
The absence of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz for extended spells this season has really worked in favour of Firmino. He was forced into a starting role and was a lone shining light in what has been a poor campaign for Liverpool.
In 21 matches for Liverpool, Firmino has scored nine goals and provided four assists across all competitions. These are impressive returns for a player who has been regarded as finished by many people.
Plettenberg has confirmed that a number of Saudi clubs are interested in Firmino but the player wants to continue at Liverpool and wants to stay at least for another couple of seasons as things stand.
If Firmino can continue performing, then Liverpool will have no qualms about keeping him. After all, the Brazilian is a unique player for whom finding a like-for-like replacement is very unlikely.
A year ago, it might have been difficult to envision a future for Firmino at Liverpool. However, things have changed for the better now. The Brazilian would be a solid squad player to keep and Klopp would like that.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Firmino. He needs to keep showing his quality and if he can do that, Liverpool will have a player who they can call on whenever needed.
