Liverpool handed injury boost as Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk return to training

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have received a significant injury boost ahead of the Merseyside Derby on Monday (February 13, 2023) with the news that two of their key players, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk, have returned to training and might be ready for the big game.

This weekend’s clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers will come too soon for the key duo but it will be a huge boost for Jurgen Klopp and the Reds that these players could be available for selection soon.

Firmino has been in scintillating form in the first half of this season, scoring crucial goals and providing assists, making him an essential player in the Liverpool lineup. The Brazilian has rediscovered his best form.

Virgil van Dijk, who is considered one of the best defenders in the world has been a rock at the heart of Liverpool’s defence. His leadership and presence on the field provides a sense of assurance to the team.

To say that Liverpool have missed Van Dijk recently would be an understatement. Ever since his injury, the Reds have really struggled at the back. Things have gone from bad to worse during this period.

The Merseyside Derby is one of the most intense and emotional matches in English football, and both teams will be looking to secure a win to establish dominance in the city. Although the duo might not be ready to start, their presence will affect Everton’s preparation.

Everton are not really in the best of spaces this season. They have struggled a lot ever since Carlo Ancelotti left the club for Real Madrid. This season, they find themselves in a relegation scrap.

Liverpool will be confident of getting a result against their bitter rivals but what they cannot afford is complacency. Under a new manager, Everton might gain a new lease of life and we must be wary of that.
