Sky Sports pundit backs Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool
In the Daily Express column, quoted by Football Scotland, former Scotland striker and Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has backed Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool should the German leave in the summer.
As much as Postecoglou is an experienced manager, he hasn’t managed a truly elite club on the European map thus far. Celtic is his first big job in the British circuit. His previous big job was leading the Australian national team between 2013 and 2017.
The 57-year-old is a good manager, but backing him to replace a legendary figure like Klopp at Liverpool is a bit over the top. Moreover, this obsession that the German will leave Anfield in the summer is getting out of hand.
Anyway, here’s what Nicholas wrote in his column regarding this topic (h/t Football Scotland):
“I know the Liverpool fans don’t want Klopp to go, but what if he decides he’s had enough? I’d be shocked if the German left before the end of the season – but there could change in the summer or if the club is bought over.
“I would be concerned about the impact managerial change there could have on Celtic. Would Liverpool come calling for Postecoglou?
“Put it this way, it would be a bigger surprise if the Aussie was not considered by the Anfield board. Could Postecoglou for Liverpool become reality?”
No disrespect to Postecoglou for the work he has done in football management so far added to the fact that he supports Liverpool. But if (a big IF) Klopp is to leave the Reds, the club should have options better than the Celtic boss lined up. This is not an entitlement, but rather looking at the bigger picture. The Aussie hasn’t done much coaching in Europe, hence he should be out of reckoning on that basis alone.
However, let’s not continue to delve into a hypothetical situation that is not going to happen in the summer. Klopp has said many times that he will stay here to oversee this transition period.
All the real Liverpool fans want him to stay. Club legend Jamie Carragher has gone as far as saying that he will replace everyone in the squad but won’t touch Klopp’s position.

Against a footballing empire like Manchester City, which is built on cheating, Klopp has performed a miracle to stay toe-to-toe with them and win every trophy possible for Liverpool. Giving him time could be the least the fans here can do.
