Post-match interview after Fulham win: Alisson Becker happy to have Liverpool star Luis Diaz back from injury
Luis Diaz and Alisson Becker share a close bond at Liverpool. The two South American stars are a regular fixture in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI when fit.
Our season took a massive, massive hit when the Colombia international was injured in the defeat against Arsenal in October 2022. The decline well and truly began.
He was supposed to be our Sadio Mane replacement this season. The Senegalese star, having left for Bayern Munich in the summer, left a gaping hole to be filled down the left flank.
Diaz has filled it exceedingly well whenever he has been on the pitch. The way he dribbles, shoots, passes, helps out in defence… you can’t find a chink in his armour.
Alisson praises Diaz
Now that he is back, Liverpool are singing again in attack. Coincidence that we have won all our five games he has featured in since returning from injury?
His moment came in the 4-3 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League when he scored after a brilliant assist from Cody Gakpo. Diaz started and was lively in the 1-0 win against Fulham yesterday (May 3).
Alisson Becker, who was the star of the show with a clean sheet, three saves and five recoveries, said after the game, via the club’s official website:
“He is amazing. So much joy when you watch him play – and I have more joy than you because he is playing in front of me! It is so good to watch him play. Really skilled player, so much talent. He is helping us a lot, he is a proper threat to the opponent, the full-back has to think twice to overlap because they have Lucho behind them.”

Lovely stuff. Hopefully, the two carry their sizzling form into the new season and help us compete for trophies again. For now, we have four games remaining and must win all four to have an outside chance at finishing in the top four.
