Manchester City to join the race for Liverpool target Ryan Gravenberch
According to the Mirror, Liverpool will face competition from Manchester City for Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who will push to sign the 20-year-old if they miss out on Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund.
Liverpool, since the previous season, have set eyes on Borussia Dortmund midfielder Bellingham as the primary target for the upcoming window.
However, a lot has changed and it is believed that a deal for Bellingham is currently off, with the club looking at potential targets to revamp the midfield.
Gravenberch has been touted as one of the alternatives to Bellingham, who has not been able to say ample time since his move to FC Bayern Munich from Ajax.
Still only 20, Gravenberch has been vocal about his frustrations in Germany and admits that a lack of playing time is an issue which needs to be resolved soon.
“Training and playing at the top level for a year is beautiful and instructive. Although playing, it is mainly training.
That has to change next season, then I really want to play weekly again. I haven’t spoken to the club management yet, so just wait and see what happens. But it is clear that this role does not match my expectations.”
Clearly, there is a clear need for talks between Gravenberch and Bayern which presents an opportunity for other teams to try for the player’s signature. Currently, despite the good form, there is a need of revamping the midfield with new additions in the department seen as a priority.
While Jude Bellingham speculated to join Real Madrid, it is important that we are ready to pursue other targets if need be. Gravenberch is one such profile who has shown a high level despite being young and has the potential to be a top midfielder if groomed correctly.
It is high time that Liverpool start putting money on the table instead of cowering away from deals because they can’t afford it. We are one of the biggest clubs in the world and cannot keep settling for less. Manchester City’s interest shouldn’t scare us if we can offer good money.
