Liverpool rival Chelsea in pursuit of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia

The battle for midfield reinforcements continues to intensify, as Liverpool and Chelsea vie for the signatures of Southampton star Romeo Lavia and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

talkSPORT via ECHO report that Chelsea drop all of their interest in Manuel Ugarte of Sporting and shift their focus on getting on board Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, both of whom are regular features on the Liverpool transfer radar.

Following Southampton’s relegation to the EFL Championship, the demand for Lavia has certainly gone up two-fold with both, the Stamford Bridge outfit alongside the Reds showing active interest in securing the Belgian international’s services.

Speaking of Caicedo, the 21-year-old Ecuadorian international has been putting up amazing performances for Brighton regularly and has caught the attention of a number of Premier League clubs since and is also on the radar of Arsenal.

What next for Caicedo and Lavia?

The competition among clubs to secure the signature of Caicedo surely underscores his growing reputation and the belief in his abilities to make an impact at the highest level.

For Liverpool, the pursuit of midfield reinforcements is an essential objective this summer, as they look to add fresh talent to their ranks. The interest in both Lavia and Caicedo demonstrates the Reds’ commitment to strengthening their midfield department and injecting renewed energy into the squad over the summer transfer window.

Assuming the deal for Alexis Mac Allister is through now, it is normal that the Reds divert their attention towards getting on board midfielders who could give the Reds something different than what Mac Allister will, and midfielders like Lavia and Caicedo surely compensate for Mac Allister’s attacking style of play in terms of their defending abilities.

However, Chelsea’s active involvement in the race for these coveted midfielders suggests that Liverpool will face stiff competition. Both clubs possess the financial means and ambition to secure high-profile signings, making the battle for Lavia and Caicedo all the more intriguing.
